Snowmania Dev Blog 4 -Starting the Game Design Document
After the final presentation, it was time to begin putting all of our ideas onto paper and creating Snowmania’s Game Design Document. To give my group a good starting point, I created a template for the document, using information from our project brief, and created a title page. The document was to have 8 chapters (including the title page I had already made), so we delegated the chapters between the four designers in the group.
Most of the chapters in the document correlated with the individual aspects of the project we had each been working on for previous assignments, such as myself being assigned the chapter on the audio experience. Since I had already started on the document, I was also in charge of formatting and organising the document and ensuring consistency and coherence across all chapters, as well as continuing my work on the character design and character concept art.
My plan going ahead for the music is to research music from different regions of the world which could be thematically linked to the level locations. For example, for the lake and river track I would like the music’s timbre and instrumentation to be inspired by a genre originating from an island region.
For the character design, I have already done a basic concept drawing of one of the four core characters. The idea is for there to be four main characters, each based off the four primary colours. There will be other characters based on secondary and tertiary colours that can be unlocked later in game using premium currencies, but only the blue, red, green and yellow characters are part of the base game. Therefore I need to design and draw the other three characters, as well as improve the original drawing of the blue character, and create more in-depth personalities and characteristics for each character.
